If you are like me and have clear memories based on olfactory senses, then selecting a perfume for your wedding day can be a really important step.
But what perfume do you select? With a wide and vast range of choices, it may be helpful to understand perfumes and the way the scents work.
Every perfume has a range of notes; top, heart and base. But what does this actually mean? Have you ever sprayed a perfume on a card, wafted it for few seconds then smelt it? That initial spray is full of top notes. These are the fresh and strong scents that come through on the first application. Now, if you were to smell the same perfume in 15 mins time, the scent will have settled down, and you are left with the heart notes. These are the main fragrances of your perfume and what will last on skin for about an hour. Lastly, you have the base notes. These are the lingering scents that form the basis of the perfume. If you can still smell your perfume three hours later, these are what you are smelling. Most perfumer's will mix the heart notes in with the base notes to keep the fragrance recognisable as the first impression.
